If you haven’t read the book, check out my Review so you know what is going on. I probably would have picked West Side Story for at least one of the books in the Perfect Chemistry series. But Simone Elkeles throws me a bone with her reference to it in the book. Carlos and Kiara are enjoying movie night with the family. Kiara’s pick.
She pulls out West Side Story and I laugh. “You like that movie?”
“Yeah. I like the dancing. And the singing.”
I wonder if she can move as well as she fixes cars. Or if she things an interracial couple is doomed because they’re too different. “Do you dance?” pg. 197
I think Carlos is more worried about the ex-or-not-so-ex-gang thing more than being Mexican.
Kiara is going to her first dance. She is the best friend of a gay guy, fixes cars and wears bagging tshirts with sayings on them. This is a big deal.
When I told my mom I was going to the homecoming dance with Carlos, she wasn’t surprised. She said she’d take me to the mll to find dress on Friday. It took me a while, but I finally found a long, black satin sleeveless dress at a vintage store. It hugs every curve in my body. It’s totally out of my comfort zone to wear something so tight and with a huge slit down the side, but when I put it on it makes me feel pretty and confident. –pg. 258
This screams “I feel pretty.”
Lets give Carlos and Kiara a little mood music for after the Homecoming dance.
