To save the lives of her friends, Rachel did the unthinkable: she willingly trafficked in forbidden demon magic. And now her sins are coming home to haunt her.

As Rachel searches for the truth behind a terrifying murder, an even greater menace threatens, for the demon Algaliarept will stop at nothing to claim her, and the discovery of a shocking family secret throws Rachel’s entire life into question. If she is ever to live free, Rachel must first walk willingly into the demonic ever-after in search of long-lost ancient knowledge.

But when you dance with demons, you lay your soul on the line . . . and there are some lines that should never be crossed. (Source: Goodreads)

What I liked…Marshall comes to town. His involvement in this book is minor, but I look forward to the future possibilities. We get to know mom and quite a bit more about Rachel and her special abilities. I really don’t know what I thought I picked up about mom in previous books, but I really like her. She is very supportive and kind of groovy. With more knowledge about where Rachel comes from, babies are on the brain. Rachel has to make a deal with the devil, I mean Al, bringing them closer together. Very interested to see where this might lead. Could Rachel ever have a think with a dude with goat slit eyes? What I didn’t like…Ivy drama. I hate how Harrison feels like she has to rehash the whole blood balance every time. We get it. I kind of think if you are picking up the series on book #6 then you deserve to be lost. I’m kind of tired of the whole Ivy drama. Freaking bite her neck, like it, and don’t drink too much. The narrator had Jinx sounding like Mickey Mouse, kind of annoying.

Goodreads has failed me with no summary. If you’ve been reading the series, you know how it goes down. Rachel has many near death experiences, tries to protect people she loves, and her personal life is in shambles. There are freaking banshees on the loose. What? Exactly. This is very much a background story. The real juice relates to Rachel’s personal life. There are some very nice developments with Marshall *wink*, until she gets shunned by the witch community for dealing with demons. We are introduced to some “Rachel Candy” according to Jinx, Pearce. He was a witch Rachel met when she was young, but now he is a ghost. But Pearce is snatched up quickly by Al. It is pretty subtle, but I think Al is crushing on Rachel and wanted to steal his potential competition. There may also be something brewing with Ivy and Glenn. See what you think? I liked this one, because there is virtually no Rachel-Ivy drama. It seems like a linking book. The book that closes the door on Rachel’s vampire period with solving Kistin’s death and opens the Pandora’s Box of her witch-demon possibilities.

Rachel Morgan has fought and hunted vampires, werewolves, banshees, demons, and other supernatural dangers as both witch and bounty hunter–and lived to tell the tale. But she’s never faced off against her own kind . . . until now. Denounced and shunned for dealing with demons and black magic, her best hope is life imprisonment–at worst, a forced lobotomy and genetic slavery. Only her enemies are strong enough to help her win her freedom, but trust comes hard when it hinges on the unscrupulous tycoon Trent Kalamack, the demon Algaliarept, and an ex-boyfriend turned thief.

It takes a witch to catch a witch, but survival bears a heavy price. (Source: Goodreads)

It starts with a bang and keeps going. Immediately Rachel is under attack from the Coven that shunned her thanks to Nick. Now she finds that they want to strip her of her magic or harvest her ovaries. *weighs both* Not going to happen. I think this may be one of the first books where the action isn’t background, it is 100% tied to her and her relationships. Yep, relationships…s, as in plural. These so-called White Witches using their earth magic to kill sends Rachel into the Ever-After for some refuge. Al takes this time to teach, to learn, to check for loyalty and most of all to offer Rachel…*tsk, tsk* You must read it for yourself. I really like where this is going, but Al is a bit of a slow burner. Come on sexy demon, show me what you’ve got. Pearce is still fiercely protecting her from the Coven, Nick, Al and herself. The jury is still out Pearce for me. I’m not sure if I opine him, but sometimes a girl just needs to have some fun. Most of all, I love how Rachel gets her own butt out of trouble. She pulls a Big Lebowski. It is layered and there are twists and turns. I just hope she finishes nailing the Coven to the wall in Pale Demon. Tired of their hypocrisy.

  1. I am trying to remember if I have these on audio or something else. Oh and I need to send you an email when I get home (yes that was random) LOL

I do have this series on my to try list! :) :) :)

    • It took a few books to move from LIKE to really like/loved. The world building is pretty complex, so it takes a while for it to roll. I think it took me to book 3 to shout TOUCHDOWN!

  2. Al, crush on Rachel? …. Heh. ;)

  3. I’m so amazed that your library has so many awesome audiobooks. Mine is seriously lacking. I was so frustrated with them recently because I noticed they had the Jason Bourne series, but only the last three books, so I asked them if they could get the first three so I could listen, and I got super excited when they called me to say they had got it. But when I went to pick them up, I noticed the order the abridged version. I wanted to kick something. LOL

Sorry for rambling. I’ve been meaning to try the Hollowed series forever now. I hope to someday. But I do love me some Cat and Bones!

    • My library doesn’t. I pay $25 a year to be a member of Arlington’s library & only check out stuff I can do electronically through overdrive (ebooks & audios). You might see if the closest big town to you will let you be a patron.
