Our journey began in fire… Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness-beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily… Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart… “When it comes to brewing up scorchingly hot sexual chemistry, Day has few literary rivals.” (Source: Goodreads)

Gideon Cross exudes power and control wrapped the package of a god. He gets what he wants and doesn’t have time for entanglements, until he meets Eva. Eva is strong, confident and playful on the exterior, but she knows her demons that she struggles with. She is on the look out for traps that would have her loosing control of her life. It is ongoing struggle of gaining back control after her step brother took it from her years ago. When the two bump into each other at Crossfire Towers, they can’t get the other out of their head.

Once Eva submits to his business-style proposition, the two give in to their carnal appetites. They are impulsive and animalistic in their pursuit of pleasure. The language and methods are rather crass, but ratchet up the heat index. There is no shortage of sexy scenes. It actually gave me a sexy times hangover.

“I loved how he started out with tenderness, then grew rougher as the lust he felt for me overwhelmed his control.”

But it can’t be just business-like, so Eva finds herself running away from Gideon when he keeps pieces of his past hid. Neither of these characters can handle being out of control, so as each incident comes up Eva finds herself running away. My love for the two characters got me through the constant leaving and reuniting. Their dark and tragic pasts definitely set themselves up to cling to each other as they heal and redefine what sex and love means to them.

“The hidden damage inside him only made me love him more.”

Gideon and Eva will incinerate you with their ferocious appetite for each other.
