[Read-a-thon] Bout of Books 5.0

I have proudly participated in all Bout of Books Read-a-thons to date, so I’m not stopping now. Join up for fun and lots and lots of reading. I will be updating here on the blog, on goodreads, and twitter using #boutofbooks. Remember to stop back by here on Friday to participate in my Challenge.

My Goals: To read 5 books in 7 days and write the reviews that go with. I plan on doing at least one twitter chat.

My Pile is all the books I brought home from the school library to read this summer. I’ve only read one of them so far. So first up, I want to finish up some series. Then I want to catch up some series and we’ll see if there is time for something new. Yep, I am back to work on Friday. This is my last hoorah before it’s all over.

Books To Read: *

  • Lost in Time by Melissa de la Cruz
  • Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles
  • Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready
  • Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
  • Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
  • Obsidian Butterfly by Laurell K. Hamilton
  • [Audiobook] Midnight Alley by Rachel Caine
  • [Audiobook] Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (started)
  • + Finish Shadowfever 200 pages

*Be prepared for changes, because I change my mind a lot.

Day 1 Challenge: Who is your literary BFF @ Auggie Talk

Gabi from Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren. She is adventuresome and I see us exploring caves and archaeological sites or stomping around a castle or two. She fights to protect those she loves and I’m sure that we help each other in that endeavor. She loves passionately with her whole heart. How can you not be drawn to someone like that. I imagine that we would raise the bar for women and push the limits of what society will allow or can handle.

Day 1 Challenge: Passing Books @ Reading in Texas & The Space Between

This is a great question. At heart of the matter, we love books. So do we horde them or do give them away. I’m all over the place. Much loved books I keep, but I do loan them to friends that I trust will love them equally. Books that I like but I don’t see them being re-read in the future, I donate to the appropriate library. My first stop is my school library. We have a small budget, so everything helps. Plus since I’ve read the book, I love suggesting it to the right kiddo.

Read: finished Shadowfever 200 pages | Midnight Alley 2.1 hours | finished Chain Reaction 308 pages

Day 2 Challenge: Limerick @ Curiosity Killed the Bookworm

I can’t stop the pile from growing
My love for books keep flowing
I gotta read
Then do the deed
Great book my reviews are glowing

Day 2 Challenge: Relocate @ The Grammarian Reviews

Midnight Alley (Morganville Vampires #3) by Rachel Caine are located in Morganville, TX. The middle of no-where Texas. Now the vampires there already have to adapt to the tons of sun. Superdooper tinted windows and underground garages. But what would it be like if they were located Yuma, AZ. They have 6% more sun that the sunniest place in Texas according to the NOAA website. Would they need to create an elaborate underground city? Maybe something truly gothic like the tunnels and catacombs of the Old World.

Read: Lost in Time 54 pages | Midnight Alley 1.5 hours

Read: Lost in Time 107 pages | Midnight Alley 2 hours
Today in 6 Words: Audiobook blocked by the hubs. Vampires!

Day 4 Challenge: Books for Every Season @ Reading in Winter

I don’t always play exactly by the rules and I usually love to go to my bookshelves for every challenge.

Summer: Dust City by Robert Paul Weston because we are in a drought & The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han the name was built right in.

Spring: A Perfect Storm by Lori Foster & Drowned Cities by Paolo Bacigalupi because they made me thing of Spring Showers

Fall: Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan because of the creepiness of Halloween & Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry for all the foliage that dies and breaks down

Winter: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater & Cloaked by Alex Finn for the obvious cold

Day 4 Challenge: Candy/Snacks @ BookSmartie

I try to not be a snacker. Coffee is a must for reading in the evening. Wine lends itself nicely to evening reading. But the hazard, it makes me sleepy. Salty chip type snacks are great as long as they don’t leave behind ick on the pages.

Day 4 Challenge: Contemporary @ Books With Cass

Favorite Read in 2012: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Favorite Cover Read in 2012: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Biggest Surprise Read in 2012: Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John. It was about way more than a band. It was about putting yourself out there, healing and the power of music.

finished Lost in Time 175 pages | finished Midnight Alley hours | finished Shine
Today in 6 Words: Wheels Came Off. Back-to-Work.

Total pages: 1249
Total hours: 8:49:28
Total books: 4 books

As you can tell by Thursday, my life got messy. I wasn’t able to participate in any more challenges nor blog hopped much. Sidney had soccer 3 of the 4 days (with hour plus commutes on both sides of practice) and I went back to work on Friday. Even though I’m one book short of my goal, I still racked up quite a few pages and blog hopped more than I think I ever had. I really neglected twitter. I guess I threw myself in some cruel and unusual twitter jail. I was trying to get as much reading done as possible. All in all, always a WIN! See you at BoB 6.o.

  8. Oh, I should have added the asterisk about possible change in titles. The readathon isn’t going to work for me if I get caught up in the idea that things are set in stone. Good luck!
