Clockwork Rewinder on a Book Binge (33)

Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and Amanda @ On A Book Bender share a little more about their week than the books they received.

bookgoonie Recap

bookgoonie’s World

  • The Kid had her first Cross Country Meet. She finished 12 out of 99 girls. She was pretty pumped. We are proud.
  • Lots of the norm at school. Art projects. Whack-a-Mole classroom management. And good times.
  • I won a freaking Kindle Fire. I donated to our JISD Education Foundation and won 1 of the drawing prizes. I jumped up and down and SQUEEEED. I was going to buy a Kindle, but was torn between the Fire and the original. This made the decision for me. BUT for the record, the e-ink is so much easier to read on.
  • SUSHI! Took Dana’s parents out for their 1st sushi.

bookgoonie Reads

  • Finished Masks of the Lost Kings by Tom Bane. It has tons of Egyptian lore + Mayan + Christian connections that lead up to a 2012 problem.
  • Started and Finished Brewing Storm (Derrick Storm #1) by Richard Castle. This was a fun crime novella. Derrick Storm is a little like Joe Ledger. Reckoning by Jeaniene Frost. Bones novella before Cat…not as much fun. Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren. I love going back to the 1300s with Lisa.
  • Started and Finished Unwind by Neal Shusterman and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Both were AWESOME. I read them to gear up for the Austin Teen Book Festival.
  • Still listening to The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch and still read-alonging The Marbury Lens by Andrew Smith.
  • Started The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. So far I am loving it.

Around the Book Blogging Community

  • Clifford, the Big Red Dog Turned 50.
  • Ruby @ Ruby’s Reads announced it is time to sign up for her annual Fall Book Exchange. I think I’m going to join in the fun this year.
  • Some Things I Think announced K.M. Walton’s new book, Empty. I loved Cracked her debut novel.
  • Holy Moly! Did you see the Beautiful Creatures movie trailer? It looks awesome.
  • YA Love Blog featured Tilt by Ellen Hopkins & Every Day by David Levithan on her weekly Trailer Thursday feature. Needless to say, they both went on my Book Order List.
  • Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books made it enjoyable to follow her around the National Book Festival. @alexalovesbooks She shared nice, concise quotes from lots of the authors I love.

Search Terms

  • kickass quotes…Are there any other kind?
  • funny fairy tale quotes…Let me introduce you to Puck from The Iron Fey series.
  • the fault in our stars page 123 to 125…that is pretty darn specific.
  • gordan ramsay meme…Wouldn’t that be great? My Kid would be all over that.
  • arabaian lady fantasy…hmmm…a magic carpet ride, maybe?

Operation TBR: +4 September. As you can tell, I went a little crazy picking up freebies for my new Kindle.

  • Bought Ebooks: Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren, Two Ravens & One Crow by Kevin Hearne, Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis
  • Bought: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
  • Free Ebooks: Intimate Strangers by Laura Taylor, Exotic Indulgence by Jess Dee, Enemies and Playmates by Darcia Helle, Dating a Cougar by Donna McDonald, Dodge the Bullet by Christy Hayes, Fools Rush In by Janice Thompson, Irresistible Forces by Brenda Jackson, Maid for the Billionaire by Ruth Cardello, Beautiful Mess by Lucy Morgan, Legacy of the Witch by Maggie Shayne, Oh, Cherry Ripe by Claudy Conn, Hunting Karoly by Marie Treanor

Unbreaking the Shelves: I still haven’t completed my hard count of books on my shelf to Goodreads. I also realized that I need a “to-read” for books bought, “to-eread” for bought ebooks, “to-freeread” for freebies, and “to-review” for review books. Now I just need to play on Goodreads for hours to fix my shelves. I did get to mark 2 books off my Order Up lists.

  • Ebooks Bought: 66 + 3 bought – 3 Read = 66
  • Ebooks Free: 105 + 12 downloaded = 117
  • Books Bought: ? + 1 bought – 3 Read = ?

  1. I really need to check out Neal Shusterman. A few people have rec’d him and I’d never heard of him until Decatur Book Festival.

I really hope you enjoy Perks. I’m going to bring tissues to the movie. I know I will be a blubbering fool. Just watching the trailer gets me!

OMG! I love the names of your GR shelves. Can I steal? Mine are “TBR Physical” “Freebies” and “Ebooks” – BORING! I so like my “Review Queue” but then I have “Review Request Complete” which is so long. lol. Since there is already a GR shelf called to read, we might need to think of something else…

  2. “To-eread” lol. I LIKE IT.

(Also, I’m really happy you liked Shadow and Bone.)

  3. LOL I Love that you won the Fire and I totally agree that eink is better to read on. I bought the Paperwhite because my Kindle Keyboard (may she RIP) finally bit the dust. I just can’t read for long periods of time on my fire *sigh*

Look at the kiddo! How awesome :)

    • I really think it gave me a headache yesterday. I’m back on my nook e-ink and no eye/head stress at all today. I’m glad I have both, but I think I’m favoring the oldies without the bells & whistles.

  4. Congrats on winning a kindle fire! I have an old kindle but I love the e-ink too. You’ll be able to do all kinds of cool things on the fire though. Glad you’re loving Girl of Fire and Thorns and enjoyed Unwind, both favorites of mine too.
